Timeless Travel Chapters (timelesstravelchapters.com) is an independently owned publication operated by Nate as a sole proprietorship. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have. We’ve written it in plain language rather than dense legal text — if anything is unclear, reach out via our Contact page.
What personal data we collect
We collect personal data in a few limited ways:
- Contact form submissions. When you use our Contact page, we collect your name, email address, and message so we can reply to you.
- Comments. If comments are enabled on a post, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymized string from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it; once approved, your comment and profile picture are publicly visible.
- Newsletter or opt-in signups. If you subscribe to updates via an on-site popup or form, we collect your email address (and, if provided, your name) to send you the content you signed up for.
- Analytics data. Like most websites, we automatically collect standard technical data — pages visited, time on page, approximate location, device and browser type, and referring site — through Google Analytics via Google Site Kit. This data is aggregated and not used to personally identify you.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience. These last for one year. If you log in as a site administrator, we set a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies and a login cookie that persists for roughly two days, or two weeks with “Remember Me”. Editing or publishing a post adds an additional cookie that expires after one day.
We also use cookies set by third-party tools embedded on the site — for example, Google Analytics via Site Kit and, once display advertising is active, Google AdSense. When we run Google AdSense, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites; you can opt out of personalized advertising through Google’s Ads Settings.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (for example, YouTube videos, Instagram posts, or maps). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, connected through Google Site Kit, to understand how visitors use this site — which pages are popular, how people arrive here, and general audience trends. This helps us improve our guides. Google Analytics data is processed according to Google’s Privacy Policy.
Advertising
This site does not currently run display advertising. We plan to apply for Google AdSense in the future. Once approved, AdSense and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to this or other websites, and visitors will be able to opt out of personalized advertising through Google’s Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info. We’ll update this policy with more specific detail once AdSense is active on the site.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site — for example, to hotels, tours, activities, insurance, or eSIM providers — are affiliate links. If you click through and book or purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate partners may set their own cookies to track referrals; we don’t control those cookies directly. See our full Affiliate Disclosure for details on how and why we use affiliate links.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Contact form submissions are retained as needed to respond to and keep a record of correspondence. We don’t offer public user accounts on this site; any registered accounts are limited to site staff, who can see, edit, or delete their profile information at any time.
What rights you have over your data
If you’ve left a comment or submitted our contact form, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it. This doesn’t include data we’re obligated to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To make a request, use our Contact page.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet). Analytics data is processed by Google. Affiliate and travel-booking links send you to third-party sites — such as Klook, GetYourGuide, Viator, Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com, SafetyWing, World Nomads, or Airalo — that have their own independent privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
