10 Days in Vietnam Itinerary

Ten days is the sweet spot for a first trip to Vietnam: enough time to see all three regions without rushing, plus a genuine beach stop and one true rest day. It follows the same north-to-south route as our 7-day Vietnam itinerary, just with more breathing room and one extra stop. Here is exactly how to structure it.

10 Days
North to south, 4 stops
3 Flights
Domestic legs between regions
$650+

1 Rest Day
Built in, unlike the 7-day version

Why 10 Days Beats 7 for a First Vietnam Trip

Ten days covers the same regions as a 7-day trip, plus a genuine beach stop in Nha Trang and enough slack that one delayed flight will not wreck the whole itinerary. It is the length most returning visitors say they wish they had booked the first time.

Trip LengthWhat You CoverPace
7 DaysHanoi + Ha Long Bay, Da Nang + Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh CityFast — see our 7-day itinerary
10 Days (recommended)Everything in 7 days, plus Nha Trang and a real rest dayComfortable, still efficient
14 DaysEverything in 10 days, plus Hue or a slower Mekong Delta extensionRelaxed

TTC Verdict: If your schedule allows it, book 10 days over 7. The extra 3 days do not just add another city — they add the margin that makes the rest of the trip actually relaxing instead of a race between flights.

Days 1–3: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay

Spend two full days in Hanoi covering the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake, and the rest of the city’s major sights — see our full Hanoi things to do guide. On day 3, head out to Ha Long Bay for an overnight cruise rather than a rushed day trip; with 10 days to work with, there is no need to compress it. For where to stay and eat in the city, see our Hanoi where to stay guide and Hanoi food guide.

Days 4–5: Da Nang and Hoi An

Fly to Da Nang and follow our full 2-day Da Nang itinerary: the Marble Mountains, the Dragon Bridge, and a full day at Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge (book the Ba Na Hills cable car and entry ticket through Klook ahead of time to skip the ticket line). With the extra time this trip length allows, add a half or full day in Hoi An’s Ancient Town, about 30 minutes south — a dedicated Hoi An guide is coming soon.

How the 10 Days Split by Region
Hanoi + Ha Long Bay (North)3 nights
Da Nang + Hoi An (Central)2 nights
Nha Trang (Central Coast)2 nights
Ho Chi Minh City (South)3 nights

Days 6–7: Nha Trang

Fly from Da Nang to Nha Trang for a genuine beach stop — the one thing a 7-day version has no room for. Follow our full 2-day Nha Trang itinerary: the Vinpearl cable car and island resort on day 1 (a combo ticket like this one on Klook covers both the cable car and the park), then the Po Nagar Cham Towers, Long Son Pagoda, and beach time on day 2. See our where to stay guide for the best beachfront areas.

Days 8–10: Ho Chi Minh City and a Day Trip

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City for the final leg. Follow our full 3-day Ho Chi Minh City itinerary: District 1 landmarks and Ben Thanh Market on day 8, the War Remnants Museum and Bui Vien nightlife on day 9, and a full-day trip to either the Cu Chi Tunnels or the Mekong Delta on day 10 (a guided option like this one on GetYourGuide covers both in a single booking) before your evening flight home.

Traveler Tip
Book the 3 domestic flights (Hanoi to Da Nang, Da Nang to Nha Trang, Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City) as one connected search rather than separately — Vietnamese domestic carriers frequently run all three routes, and booking together makes it easier to spot a schedule that leaves a comfortable gap rather than a same-day connection.
Is 10 days enough for Vietnam?

Yes, for a well-paced first trip covering all three regions: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in the north, Da Nang and Hoi An in central Vietnam, Nha Trang on the central coast, and Ho Chi Minh City in the south, with a real rest day built in. Add extra days only if you want to slow down further or add Hue.

What is the best 10-day Vietnam route?

North to south: Hanoi and Ha Long Bay (3 nights), Da Nang and Hoi An (2 nights), Nha Trang (2 nights), Ho Chi Minh City (3 nights). This adds a genuine beach stop and a rest day compared to a 7-day version of the same route.

Should I do 7, 10, or 14 days in Vietnam?

7 days if that is genuinely all the time available; 10 days if you can manage it, since it adds a beach stop and real breathing room; 14 days only if you want to add Hue or slow the pace down further rather than cover more ground.
